Píše se rok 1975. Španělský diktátor Franco umírá, ale režim, který vytvořil je stále u moci. Mezi stoupenci komunistického odporu Frankova režimu jsou i Jean a Eva, vyhnanci žijící v exilu - ve Francii. Spolu s jejich dvacetiletým synem si užívají dovolenou, když je Eva povolána do Španělska na tajnou misi. Tato událost je příčinou rozpor mezi manžely i mezi Jeanem a jeho otcem. Situace se ještě zhorší poté, když se rozšíří zvěst, že Eve zemřela při automobilové nehodě.
