Keďže plukovník polície potrebuje priebojných tvrdých mužov, inšpektor Cruchot spolu s kolegami skončí vo výslužbe. Inšpektor žije so svojou ženou v jej zámočku a príšerne sa nudí. Aby nezomrel od nudy, bojuje aspoň so sluhom, aby mohol robiť aspoň tie najjednoduchšie práce. Nuda však postupne doľahne na všetkých, a tak sa rozhodnú konať na vlastnú päsť. Vrátia sa na svoje staré miesta, oprášia staré spomienky, oblečú si svoje staré uniformy... a St. Tropez obrátia hore nohami.
