NHK的第86部晨间剧。故事发生在1945年的日本，战争刚刚过去，留给世人的，是千疮百孔的世界和苦不堪言的日子。受父亲的影响，下村梅子（堀北真希 饰）决心成为一名医生，尽管遭到了家人的极力反对，但在大哥的支持下，执着的梅子依然凭借着顽强的毅力考入了医科学校。之后，拿到了医师资格证书的梅子正式走上了救死扶伤的道路，跟随着医生坂田（世良公则 饰），梅子渐渐了解到了城镇医疗资源匮乏所带来的种种恶果。1955年，梅子的私人诊所开业了，资金的短缺、生意的惨淡、大型综合医院的竞争，这接连而来的考验并没有动摇梅子行医救人的决心，随着时间的推移，她不仅令诊所成功运作，更和名叫信郎（松坂桃李 饰）的淳朴青年展开了一段浪漫恋情。
